National Advocacy Working Group

In 2026, Moms Stop the Harm (MSTH) formed a National Advocacy Working Group (NAWG) to guide and support MSTH's advocacy work across Canada. The purpose of the NAWG is to amplify MSTH's vision, mission, and values at the national, provincial, and local levels. To develop strategies and advocacy campaigns for MSTH members to undertake to promote policy change through communicating, facilitating, educating, collaborating, and working with MSTH members and allied groups nationwide.

The NAWG is engaging in intentional province-by-province and territory-by-territory outreach to help amplify MSTH advocacy efforts and to grow our national network and maximize the impact of our collective efforts by:

  • Raising awareness about the harms and deaths caused by Canada's current drug laws and the need to advance harm reduction practices that respect dignity and human rights.

  • Reducing stigma surrounding substance use through awareness and public education to reduce the moral panic surrounding substances and advocating for changes to Canada's failed drug policy.

  • Advocating for reformed drug policies at all government levels.

  • Influencing public policy makers to create evidence-based changes to drug policy which preserve dignity, respect individual rights, and actively pursue public health objectives.

If you're an active, registered member of MSTH seeking to lend your voice to a nationwide groundswell of momentum that centralizes the perspectives of those with lived/living experience to help end substance use-related stigma, harms and death through advocacy, learn more about NAWG by emailing nawg@momsstoptheharm.com

If you're not yet a registered member, or if you know someone who could benefit from developing a relationship with MSTH, please sign up to become a member and receive our newsletters, which will inform you of actions, events, and news in your region.
