Dr. Wood has helped with the leadership of a number of clinical care and clinical training programs and as co-chaired the writing of a number of provincial and national substance use disorder therapeutic guidelines aimed at improving prevention and treatment of substance use disorders in primary care. This includes the 2023 national guideline for high risk drinking and alcohol use disorder which identified concerns with “polypharmacy” (i.e. multiple prescriptions) and how certain psychoactive medications may worsen substance use craving and outcomes from substance use disorder.
