When Vernon songwriter Jim Mennear first penned "Missing Child" in 1993, it was born from a moment of panic—the terrifying minutes when his son vanished from their backyard, only to be found safe shortly after. The song, later used by Child Find Canada and featured in a MuchMusic video, originally aimed to shed light on the fear experienced by parents of missing children. Fast-forward to 2025: the track has taken on a far deeper resonance for Mennear, following the tragic loss of his adult son, Aaron, to an opioid overdose. Now reworked, "Missing Child" serves as a heartfelt tribute to Aaron and two nieces, transforming personal grief into a powerful statement on the devastating realities of addiction and loss.
